Handwoven baskets by Senbasket
by SenBaskets
$16.00Our friend and fellow makers market vendor, Adama, gets these handwoven baskets from Senegal. They are the perfect size for holding our Ritual Mischief offerings when giving them as gifts and are beautiful, useful catch-all type baskets for home. They're so beautiful we just had to get some for our herbal studio!
Adama told me that basketry is a specialty of the Senegalese village of Méckhé. Going to Saint-Louis you can see pretty baskets in various colors on National Road 2, between Thiès and Tivaouane around the town of Ngaye Méckhé, it is a town in the north of the Thiès region in Senegal. Visit Senbaskets for more details and lots more styles and sizes than we carry!
Size and materials: The handmade baskets vary slightly in size but are all approximately 10 inches long by 8 inches wide by 2 inches tall. Each one is unique. They are hand made with Sweetgrass and recycled plastic. If an exact size matters to you tell me that in the comments, and I’ll let do my best to get the exact size to you in the color that you want.
Emotionally local. We’re big fans of sourcing hyper local here, but every now and then my heart deems someone “emotionally local.” Adama and her family live nearby, and these lovely baskets and their makers, are all emotionally local for me. If you want the names of local basket makers, just holler. Thanks!
Note: Price is for one handmade basket, without soap. The photos with soaps are just to show size and scale and possible gift idea.
